Grey Fox at IBMA

Mary Tyler Doub approaches the lectern
to introduce Roger Brown, IBMA’s keynote speaker.
Grey Fox was well-represented at the International Bluegrass Music Association’s World of Bluegrass, held in Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 29-Oct. 5. Again nominated for Bluegrass Event of the Year, the folks from Grey Fox were the first on their feet to applaud the Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival, which celebrated its 30th and final season this year.
Grey Fox’s Mary Tyler Doub introduced keynote speaker Roger Brown. Mr. Brown, president of Berklee College of Music in Boston, tied the evolution of bluegrass with the development of bee-bop. Click to watch a video interview with Mr. Brown from The Bluegrass Blog.

The Grey Fox crew (plus the Thirsty Lizards) had a very busy and productive week at IBMA this year. The week was packed with educational seminars and a professional trade show during the day, and artist showcases all over the hotel and convention center each night. We heard a lot of bands and are excited about planning next year’s festival.
Thanks to Mary Tyler Doub who was her eloquent self while kicking off the week’s activities by introducing Keynote Speaker Roger Brown, president of Berklee College of Music.
Also at IBMA from the Grey Fox staff were Lisa Husted, Janet Brightly, Rousby Quesenberry, Caroline Isachsen… Main Stage manager John Rossbach… Yoga leader Lucy Weberling, Bluegrass Academy for Kids teachers Ira Gitlin, Cathy Goode, Ben Pearce, Mark Panfil, Akira Otsuka and Louis Kaplan… I’m sure I’m missing quite a few Grey Fox movers and shakers. Lots of Grey Fox fans were there — way too many to mention. Suffice it to say that we were there in large numbers.
If you’re not familiar with IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association), check it out on line at http://www.ibma.org. Check out the winners of this year’s Award Show (and all sorts of other information). It’s a great organization. Please consider joining. Your membership supports bluegrass in a big way.
Did you know that Mary Doub is also the current chairperson of the International Bluegrass Music Museum in Owensboro, KY? You should check that out too. http://www.bluegrassmuseum.org. It’s a great museum that every bluegrass fan should visit and support. You can start by doing a virtual tour on line right now!
Best
Mary
I’m very proud to be a graduate of this year’s IBMA Leadership Bluegrass 2009 class. As someone who has attended and worked at Grey Fox (and its prior names) Festival for almost thirty years on and off, I feel a part of the Grey Fox family; so, I have a certain amount of pride to be bringing my IBMA LBG certificate and what I learned during the rigorous three days in Nashville home to Oak Hill this year.
I believe IBMA has developed one of the most effective training, networking and information exchange programs in which I have ever had the privilege to participate. I would be very happy to talk to anyone at the festival about the Leadership Bluegrass experience this year, since I feel committed to its mission and goals which are to make Bluegrass the best it can be for the fans, promoters and artists alike. You can read more about the program and this year’s graduates at http://www.ibma.org/events.programs/leadership.bluegrass/index.asp
I look forward to seeing everyone at this year’s festival. I’m certain it will be the best ever! Thanks.
