Riding the hot air balloon
Fred Robbins took off in the hot air balloon on Saturday night and recorded the event for posterity - and for the fun of it. Check out his video below (On Facebook? Click here to view this page.):

Fred Robbins, our man with the roving cam, captured some wonderful footage at Grey Fox 2009. There will be more on the way, but for now, please enjoy the Master’s Stage Guitar Workshop, featuring Josh Williams, Chris Eldridge and Danny Knicely. Wait til you hear Danny’s picking in “Whiskey Before Breakfast” (part 5) (On Facebook? Click here to view this page.):
3 commentsAnd the “Best Campsite Award” for 2009 goes to….
Each year, our recycling team makes the rounds throughout the campground and selects the best campsite. With our move last year to Greene County and to the Walsh Farm, we felt it was time to award the annual prize (a pair of tickets to next year’s show) to the campsite that best combines creativity, conservation of space and recycled materials. This year’s “Best Campsite” was all those things, as you’ll see in the accompanying images.
The winners created adjoining campsites that perfectly embodied creativity, conservation and reuse. Sharing this year’s prize are David High of Athens, NY; Deb Parker and her son, Earl Thomasson of New Baltimore, NY and their friends, Ralph Delpozzo and Jackie Keveson (from parts unknown). The site was created entirely of second hand or handmade items, a gorgeous array of potted flowers, tapestries, baskets of fresh vegetables, used furniture, and fun stuff decorated by the camp’s resident child named Earl.
Everywhere your eyes settled, there was a well-planned detail that ignited one smile after the next—from the second hand country-western shirt draped over an old rocker to a model airplane handpainted by the youngest member of the group. So, congratulations to this team of talented designers and happy campers.
Enjoy the slide show! What fun! And good luck to every camper next year! These guys have upped the ante, for sure!

I didn’t shoot very many videos this year, but lots of you did. Here is a playlist of what has shown up on Youtube to date, including an amazing video of Josh Williams and others playing “Cherokee Shuffle,” The Boston Boys and the overflight of the balloon! Enjoy …. Steve
No commentsIt’s gonna be a great Saturday!
Good morning!
The sun is shining big time. Big beautiful clouds are floating in the sky. And everything is drying out nicely after a soaking rain last night. As always, the show was terrific last night, despite the rain.
Today promises to be a WONDERFUL day with more of a Who’s Who lineup all around the festival grounds. On the Main Stage, in order of appearance we have: Sarah Jarosz, Josh Williams, Sierra Hull, Dry Branch, Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum, Crooked Still, Marty Stuart, Ricky Skaggs, The SteelDrivers, and closing the show is the Tim O’Brien Band. More great performances, workshops, demonstrations, etc. on our other stages. Music from 11am to midnight on the Main Stage.
The Dance Stage will be swinging until 1:00am with the Red Stick Ramblers closing there. Come early; stay late!

Hi, everyone. Marla Singleton just posted a bunch of photos on Flickr (link above). It’s a gorgeous day here on the Walsh Farm and tonight the sky is just lovely! Check out the photos of this year’s Tee Shirt Booth — aka Grey Fox Manor! Wait til you see this! It’s the imaginative work of The Event Company of Kentucky — who are fine, fine folks and a sponsor of Grey Fox. They do the set design for the Annual IBMA Awards Show. Check it out!
The site is pulling together perfectly. We’re really really liking the new layout. All the stages and vendors seem like a unit. And the new path from the lower area to the Main Stage area is very gentle. We’re very happy with the way it’s all shaping up.
So, enjoy these early photos from Marla and come be with us! The weather report is about as good as it can be. Camping gates open tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m.
See you all soon!
Mary

No commentsStories Coming In Fast!
Wow! What a great response already, everyone. In less than a day, we have some WONDERFUL stories: some going back to 1976, some about Bill Monroe, some about great friends you’ve met over the years, some very funny stuff, all very touching memories. Keep ‘em comin’! —- Thanks, Mary
