Who knew you could get in a time machine and go back 29 years? Well, not really, but thanks to Fred Robbins, it’s the next best thing.
Fred just sent me a link to his photos of the Berkshire Mountain Festival in 1980. There’s a great shot of Jack Cooke (RIP) playing with Ralph, and Marty Stuart playing with Lester Flatt. I had staked out a spot for my blanket right in front of the stage and hardly budged all weekend. Couldn’t believe I was seeing Lester! And Ralph already was my bluegrass hero.
I remember being at another festival about that time and Jack’s bass had something wrong with it. He played mine that day and I was so pleased.
Anyway, here is a link to Fred’s “time machine.” Come on, hop in!
Thanks, Fred. You’ve done such a great job of capturing bluegrass over the years.
