Del & Dawg
Chemistry! That’s what happens when you put a National Heritage Fellow, Grammy winning member of the Grand Ole Opry, IBMA Hall of Famer and winner of 30 IBMA Awards together with the creator of a genre of music named just for him, and who’s recorded on over 100 major albums and collaborated in bands with the likes of Stephane Grappelli, Jerry Garcia, Eddie Gomez, Peter Rowan, Richard Greene, Tony Rice, Darol Anger, Mark O’Connor, Red Allen, Bill Keith, and other luminaries in more genres than you can imagine.
And when Del McCoury and David Grisman take the stage together at Grey Fox this summer, you won’t want to miss the magic!
Del & Dawg share a long musical history together. David Grisman first met Del McCoury in New York City at the first show Del ever played (on banjo, no less!) in a now legendary lineup of Bill Monroe & The Bluegrass Boys back in 1963. David’s newfound banjo picking buddy, Gerry Garcia, gave him the nickname Dawg in 1964. Del & Dawg played their first gig together in1966. That performance was released on Sugar Hill Records in 1980. Featuring studio sessions with Del’s award-winning band, their well-lauded Del & Dawg release on Acoustic Disc Records celebrates the musical friendship these two bluegrass icons have shared for 50 years.
