QUICKSTEP w/ JOHN KIRK & TRISH MILLER (Sat)

Since 1988, John Kirk and Trish Miller have toured throughout the world, from the Grand Canyon to Barbados, from Carnegie Hall in New York to the Academy of Culture in St. Petersburg, Russia, playing music and singing in concerts, festivals, and schools, and calling contra and square dances.

And it wouldn’t quite be Grey Fox without Quickstep with John & Trish calling country dances at the Silo Dance Stage on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. You’ll learn squares, circles contra dances and waltzes accompanied by their dynamic string band of John Kirk, Sara Milonovich & Jon Simmons play fiery fiddles, Ed Lowman plays bass, Trish Miller plays guitar and David Kiphuth brings both bluegrass and old-time pickin’ styles to his banjo accompaniment. Each of these instrumentalists occasionally play another instrument as this ensemble provides tasty tunes for the dances and clogging workshops.

Quickstep has been part of Grey Fox (and Winterhawk) since the early days when John played with Walt Michael & Company and Trish danced with the Green Grass Cloggers. Old-time, friendly dances, organized by this quintet, are a good place to get acquainted with other folks, move to the music and create lovely patterns that reflect the traditional tunes you’ll hear. Bring your water bottle, wear comfortable shoes for dancing, and kick up your heels!
