Wonderful 2008 festival – It’s a wrap!

Just got home from Grey Fox. I was lax in writing anything from the past couple of days — I was a tad busy catching all the music and more! Stay tuned … we’ll be working soon on posting festival photos, and I have a bunch more videos to put up once I actually get some sleep! Steve steve@thirstylizards.com

Tremendous first day at Grey Fox!

IIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCEEEEEEE! Grey Fox was a hopping place on Thursday. What started as haze and clouds in the morning eventually turned to sun. Though it got a bit toasty in the sun (and the Ice Man was busy), it was very hot on the main stage, the workshops and in the midway, as well. From a lesson in dining under the tarps to the kick-off by the Dry Branch Fire Squad, the day was a marvel of activity. I must have seen at least a half-dozen bands. Topping the main stagers were the primary acts, from the Dailey & Vincent Band,

Best Campsite from 2007

My name is Christina Grant. My husband, Dusty, and I have been attending Grey Fox for a few years now and, of course, we love it. Thanks for helping to plan and host such an amazing event! Last year we won Best Campsite. I noticed that you have updated the Best Campsite page on the website and would like to humbly share our story with you, and some pictures from our camp last year. As I was reading the new requirements for Best Campsite, I was thinking, ‘Oh, this is fantastic!’ That’s what we are always trying to do at

Rothvoss Farm Sold; Grey Fox Seeks New Home

January 10, 2008 The Rothvoss Farm, long-time home of the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, was sold on January 7, ending 31 years of bluegrass festivals on the picturesque farm in Ancramdale, NY. Grey Fox is searching for a new site for this year’s festival. While we were hoping to remain on the Rothvoss Farm in 2008, it is necessary for us to move this summer’s event to a new location. Our goal is to find a new home in the Hudson Valley or the Eastern Catskill Mountain area. Anticipating the sale of the farm since early December, we have looked

“New Generation” assembles at Grey Fox

One of the highlights of Merlefest this year was when several of the so-called “new generation” string bands jammed together in a special show hosted by The Duhks. Look for an even bigger gathering of these young bands at the upcoming Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival (July 19-22, Ancramdale NY). The Duhks at Merlefest The festival has just released its stage schedule, and the new generation is all over it. For example, on Friday afternoon beginning at 1 pm, you can see The Duhks, The Infamous Stringdusters, Crooked Still and Uncle Earl one after the other. The last is listed as

Bring your Can Tabs and Help the Children

If you haven’t been collecting all year, start now! Bring your beverage Can Tabs to Grey Fox and place them in the Thirsty Lizards collection bin at the information booth! Grey Fox fans dropped off 25 lbs of can tabs in 2006. Some Grey Fox folks went above and beyond, tearing off tabs from cans in the recycling bins. Talk about Grey Fox Spirit! Why you should collect can tabs Can tabs are recycled by Shriners Hospitals for Children and used to buy thousands of dollars worth of medical and non-medical supplies for children. Believe it or not, these tiny
