Kian Dye

Mandolinist, fiddler, guitarist, singer Kian Dye grew up attending various bluegrass festivals and fiddle camps on the West Coast. After playing in numerous bands, including Never Come Down,in Portland, OR, Kian moved to Bellingham, WA where he founded the band Virginia Rail and produced and mixed their self-titled debut album in 2022. In 2023, Kian finished his undergraduate degree from Fairhaven College at Western Washington University, focusing on audio technology, ethnomusicology, and social justice. Kian is the recipient of the Oregon Bluegrass Association’s Steve Waller Grant, and winner of the 2023 Monroe Mandolin Appreciation Society Tune Writing Contest hosted by Christopher Henry (Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band). His acclaimed self-titled solo album was released early in 2025. In addition to teaching at the Grey Fox Bluegrass Academy for Kids, he can be heard at the Gig Rig in two sets: “Bill Monroe Meets Bill Keith” (Fri) and Kian Dye and Friends (Sat).
