Almost Northern Lights (Sat)

Unspoken Tradition, photo by Sandlin Gaither

Catch this special reunion of Northern Lights, one of New England’s most influential progressive bluegrass bands, featuring three original members – Taylor Armerding (mandolin, vocals), Bill Henry (guitar, vocals) and Jeff Horton (bass, vocals), showcasing the stellar vocal blend and instrumental synergy they honed over three-plus decades.

Jeff will also return to lead two harmony workshops with Taylor and Bill, joined by longtime friend Matt Carlen (guitar), helping participants unlock the mysteries of two-, three- and four-part harmonies.

For their Grass Roots Stage set, the band will add special guests Alex Mitchell (fiddle) and Max Wareham (banjo). Max will be honoring the banjo legacies of the departed and well-loved Mike Kropp and Gabe Hirshfeld

Founded in 1975, Northern Lights helped define modern New England bluegrass, releasing eight albums, earning an IBMA Song of the Year nomination, and winning a Boston Music Award for Best Country Act.

For this show, they’ve worked up some new material by Americana greats John Hiatt and John Gorka, maintaining their reputation for expanding the boundaries of bluegrass while remaining faithful to its core traditions.
