Doug & Julie
Family Stage
2024 Lineup | Past Years: 2023 Lineup | 2022 Lineup | 2019 Lineup
Doug and Julie Jay are two certified science teachers using music to relate the wonders of the natural world to learners both young and old. Amidst the relentless onslaught of screens into the lives of all ages in our techno-society, the music of this group is asking us to rekindle the joy of sharing musical experiences together. Inspired by the work of Pete Seeger, Cat Stevens, and Raffi, this duo weaves together storytelling, dance, catchy melodies and rhythms, and multiple instruments into their own brand of original music for everyone. This husband-wife duo will bring the message of nature along with the fun-loving feelings of simply being a kid and the joy of discovering the wonders of the world around us.
Doug Jay (vocals, guitar, banjo, mandolin) has been teaching Earth and Space Science and Sustainability Science to children ages 3-18 for the past sixteen years in his roles as a naturalist and public school science teacher. Doug has received the Garden State Green Educator’s Award in 2011, and has garnered teacher of the year honors for the Livingston Public School District in 2012. Julie Jay (vocals, guitar, flute) has taught Earth and Environmental Science grades 6-12, currently teaches ages 3-10 in a Nature School, and moonlights as an assistant librarian and head beekeeper at her home in New Jersey. They are currently raising two bear cubs disguised as children, ages 4 and 8, and are head-over-heels excited to perform at the Family Stage this Grey Fox.
